Helping Heroes Heal — One Dog at a Time

Better Colorado Foundation is a Colorado-based nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans struggling with PTSD find healing, purpose, and connection through the power of service animals.

We believe no hero should feel forgotten after their service. But for many veterans, the transition to civilian life is filled with unseen battles — anxiety, depression, and a heartbreaking rate of suicide. Our mission is simple but powerful: pair veterans with highly trained service dogs to help them reclaim their lives.

Founded by people who have walked this road — veterans, family members, and those passionate about making a real difference — we are committed to creating a community that stands by those who stood for us. From application to training and beyond, we walk alongside every veteran we serve.

Why We Exist

Every day, an estimated 17 veterans die by suicide. Many more suffer in silence. Clinical research and firsthand experience both confirm what we already knew: service dogs save lives. These loyal companions offer more than just help — they offer hope, stability, and unconditional love.

We created A Better Colorado Foundation to be more than just a cause. It’s a commitment to our veterans and their families — that their sacrifices will never be forgotten, and their futures will always be worth fighting for.

What Makes Us Different

  • Veteran-Led Mission: Our board includes veterans living with PTSD and those partnered with service dogs — ensuring real-life experience guides every decision.

  • Community First: We host local events, fundraisers, and outreach programs to build awareness and bring people together around a shared purpose.

  • Transparency & Trust: Every dollar raised goes directly to pairing more veterans with service animals and supporting the foundation‘s ability to help our local vets — no red tape, no fluff.

Our Vision

A world where no veteran faces PTSD alone — and every hero has the support they need to thrive.
